FORMER Chester City FC Official Supporters Association chairman Barrie Hipkiss paid tribute to the work City Fans United had done in helping to provide community-based football for Chester.

Barrie, a lifelong Blues fan, said: “I am very pleased the council has made the right decision, and it’s great that the club is back in the hands of the fans.

“I would like to congratulate the CFU committee for all their hard work. There is plenty more to be done, but they have done so much.

“Jeff Banks and all the other members have put in so many hours to make this work. I would like to thank them on behalf of all the fans.

“I am prepared to help out and do what I did as before with the club if they want me. I am prepared to do it again, having done so for the past 50 years.”
