A GIANT project in Chester is looking for your vote to become part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations next year.

Dancing with Giants, an idea by organisers of last weekend’s Carnival of Giants in Chester, has been short listed for a grant from the Jubilee People’s Millions and you will get the chance to vote for it on ITV next Wednesday, June 29.

The project will involve 60 local communities, groups or organisations from west and east Cheshire who will work with an artist to help them build a 14 ft high Queen Elizabeth II dancing giant. This will culminate in a Diamond Jubilee Street Carnival Party in Chester.

Chester’s Carnival of Giants had a royal presence this year with The Queen’s School creating a giant Queen Victoria, The King’s School’s majestic Henry VIII and a couple of giants of the newly wed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The giant project is up against five others in the region, which will battle it out on ITV for the public vote. Voting for the Chester project will open at 9am on Wednesday June 29 and stay open till midnight. A video of the project will be shown on Granada Reports between 6 and 6.30pm. The winner will receive an award for £60,000.

City MP Stephen Mosley, said: “The Chester Giants are unique to Chester and are a great advertisement for the city. I would urge everyone to vote to make sure that our Diamond Jubilee Street Carnival Party is the best street party in Britain next year.”

The Jubilee Peoples Millions is a funding programme for groups involving local people working together to tackle a problem. It builds on the success of the People’s Millions programme which was launched in 2005, and since then it has awarded over £22 million to 388 projects.
