A CHESTER cycle club can get on their bikes come rain or shine, thanks to an £850 donation.
The Co-operative’s Community Fund provided enough funds to buy water resistant jackets and warm fleeces to keep the clubs team of volunteers warm and dry, regardless of the weather.
The club encourages young people and their families to get on their bikes, learn new skills and be more active through their weekly coaching sessions at Wealstone Lane playing fields in Upton.
Spokes-man Paul Evans said: “It’s fantastic knowing that even when the weather isn't great, we can wrap up and keep on delivering our weekly sessions.
“The jackets and fleeces that we have been able to buy thanks to The Co-operative grant will allow us to continue our work throughout the autumn and winter months.”
Elizabeth McClean, from The Co-operative’s Cheshire area membership committee said: “The fund can make a real and lasting contribution to local communities and the Chester Go-Ride Cycle Club is certainly a worthy cause.”
The fund offers grants of between £100 and £2,000 to community projects across the country.
About £200,000 is available annually to support charities and community groups and application forms are available online at www.co-operative.coop/membership/Community-Fund or by phoning 0161 827 5879.
