A city centre street will be taken over by a giant water slide for one day only – all in the name of two local charities.

Lower Bridge Street will play host to Chester City Slide on Sunday, September 13.

Four-hundred lucky sliders – who must be over 18 – will be let loose to splash about on the 100m chute in aid of the Countess of Chester Hospital’s Babygrow Appeal and Taporley-based Transformation for Veterans, formerly called Sanctuary for Veterans.

Fun-seekers who want to have a go on the slide are invited to enter an online ballot at a cost of £2.50, of which £1.50 will go towards the charities.

When the ballot closes on August 31, 400 entrants will be selected at random.

Lesley Woodhead, from the Babygrow Appeal, said: “It’s the summer of the slide!

“It’s great that two local charities and a local organisation that does so much for charity have come together to make sure Chester does not miss out on having a slide this summer!

“Don’t miss out on a chance to be a part of the summer of slides for £2.50 which supports the charities as well.”

Chester City Slide, which is being run by charity challenge and events company Expedition Wise Ltd, means the city will join the likes of Liverpool and Manchester, which also have aqua attractions heading their way this summer.
