Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with a suspected broken nose following an assault as he walked home from a night out in Chester.

The attack happened on Watergate Street in the early hours of Wednesday (August 21, 2013).

Cheshire Police say the 21-year-old victim was with his friend at just after 2am when a man walked over to him, becoming immediately aggressive and started to swing punches.

The victim was hit and fell to the floor. He lost consciousness and was taken to hospital where he was treated for a cut to his head that required stitches, a suspected broken nose and cuts to his face.

Detective Constable Tom Davies said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked assault on a man that had been enjoying a night out with his friends. I am keen to speak to anyone that may have witnessed the incident or have any information that could assist my investigation.”

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
