MONTHS of hard work by 11 gifted artists can be seen at a new exhibition opening at Chester’s City Road Church on Monday.

The exhibition, Stitched, is the culmination of their efforts.

They are all supported by The Chester Link, a charity which supports accommodation for adults with learning disabilities.

The artists have attended creative workshops with artist Caroline Backhouse to improve their sewing skills and to learn new ways to express themselves creatively.

“Each of the artists have developed their own project, resulting in 11 quirky and unique pieces that reflect their own personalities,” said Caroline.

“These range from a rainbow coloured felt installation to intricately cross- stitched pieces that glint in the sunlight through the church windows.”

One of the artists, Julia Dick, said: “We have really enjoyed making artwork which is very colourful and unusual and we hope the public enjoy the show”

Stitched is deliberately not in a traditional gallery but by utilising the aspects of the church it is hoped the art will create a vibrant atmosphere that welcomes those who might not normally set foot in an art space.

It will also feature an aboriginal inspired installation created with local artist Estelle Woolley, who will also be collaborating with musician Emily Warren to lead a musical performance.

Also in the show will be a participatory piece, Dreamweavers, which will encourage visitors to weave their hopes and wishes into a blanket of dreams.

Stitched will open for a preview evening on Monday between 7pm and 9pm and then from 10am to 5pm daily until August 4.
