DEVA Cheerleading Academy paraded through the city’s streets to raise vital funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Research.

The squad entertained shoppers with acrobatic displays while cheerleading for over a mile – starting from Chester youth club and ending at Eastgate Street – as part of the charity’s fundraising initiative.

Clatterbridge Cancer Research’s Around the World in 80 Ways summer fundraiser asks people to raise a minimum of £2 for every mile they pledge to travel without using engine power.

The girls, who have cheered for Chester Romans American football team and the Flintshire ice hockey team, were sponsored for the routine which they are due to show at competition.

Spokesperson for the charity, Sarah Klaveness, said: “Anyone can raise money for our Around the World in 80 Ways campaign and we were so pleased the club wanted to get involved.

“Visit www.80ways. clatterbridge.org to find out how hopping, skipping, running, walking, cycling, pony riding or whatever you fancy can help us collectively cover 25,000 miles and raise £50,000 to fund two cancer research scientists for a year!”

Clatterbridge Cancer Research raises funds for research in Cheshire and Merseyside where mortality rates are 35% higher than the national average.

Money raised through the campaign will help Clatterbridge Cancer Research find ways to help beat cancer.
