A CHESTER school is celebrating a huge cash injection for sport.

Chester Catholic High School has received a grant of £17,071 grant from the nation’s largest sports charity, the Football Foundation.

The funding boost will help the school refurbish its changing room facilities.

The existing provision, which serves both the playing fields and the sports hall, are not suitable for junior use but when the upgrade is complete, will offer a state-of-the-art experience for the five partner clubs who use the site.

Between them Westminster Park FC, Upton Junior, Saltney Ferry FC, Broughton Super Saints FC and Waverton FC have 20 teams and forecasts suggest that as a result of the changing room upgrade, 35 more teams will be able to utilise the site for match play and training.

Headteacher John Murray said: “This is a fantastic bonus for our school, our students and the local community who use our facilities. “These improvements will no doubt encourage increased participation whilst promoting a healthier lifestyle. I would like to place on record my sincerest thanks to the Football Foundation for all their help and support.”
