A BUSINESSMAN who turned to drink after his company closed was given a 12 month supervision order after carrying a kitchen knife in Christleton.
Shane Kirt Pritchard, 28, of Woodfields, Christleton, was sentenced at Chester Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to possession of the carving knife at Quarry Lane, Christleton, on February 12, 2009.
Lorraine Kenny, prosecuting, said: “His wife had found him slicing his leg. The couple had an argument and the defendant left the address.
“The reason for her concern was the she thought he might try and self harm again.
“He was located by police and arrested. In interview the defendant said he had consumed 14 cans of beer and felt very depressed and wanted to self harm.”
Howard Jones, defending, said: “He has not been trouble before, it followed the demise of his business. One would hope this is the last time he appears before the courts.”
Chair magistrate Howard Fay gave Pritchard a 12 month supervision order and asked for the knife to be destroyed.
