PLAYERS from around the Chester area got stuck into a swamp soccer tournament in Scotland.

The national event saw more than 40 teams from across the UK bogged down in a purpose-built arena in Strachur, Argyll, with prizes on offer for those who battled the adverse conditions best.

Among the teams were the Chester-based Bruce’s Bogtrotters, led by team captain Matthew Evered.

He said: “It was really heavy going, great fun and a family event – everyone takes it light-heartedly.

“We were one of the younger teams and had tactics, but they went out of the window pretty quickly.”

The team missed out on qualifying from their group stage on goal difference.

Matthew said Bruce’s Bogtrotters would definitely like to be back for next year’s tournament, hopefully with a bigger squad.
