AN ARTIST is vying for a hat trick of top art prizes this year.

Selected for the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition's North prize for the third consecutive year, Chester artist Kathy Little has scooped the honour in the past two years.

Kathy, who has won £250 each time, has been selected to display a painting of the Dee from November 11-21 at the Mall Galleries, London.

She said: “ING Discerning Eye has provided an opportunity to further the success I’ve had with my work in the North of England.

"I was delighted that selectors working at this level in the art world awarded me this prestigious prize.”

The ING Discerning Eye exhibition is a show of small works independently selected by two artists, two collectors and two critics. This year's selectors are artists Robbie Wraith, winner of last year's DE Founder's Prize, and Ishbel Myerscough; collectors Judith Collins, a former senior curator of Tate Britain, and interior designer Nina Campbell; and critics Tim Barber of CityAM and Mark Rappolt from Art Review.

They chose Kathy's work from the dozens entered to hang in the gallery.

This year’s selectors join an illustrious list of selectors over the years, including HRH Prince of Wales, A S Byatt, Sir Jonathan Miller, Joan Bakewell CBE, Griff Rhys Jones, Michael Parkinson and Davina McCall.

As many as 600 works may be on show in the exhibition, to which all selected artists will be invited to a private view on Thursday, November 11.

The show enjoys an excellent reputation among art lovers and collectors for its unique and highly personal approach to exhibiting the works, which include paintings and prints, drawing, photography and sculpture.
