CHESTER actor Tom Hughes will be back on our TV screens tonight (Monday) in a new BBC drama written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff.
The former Upton-by-Chester High School student plays the charismatic and debonair Julian in the six-hour 1930s period drama Dancing on the Edge, which starts tonight on BBC Two at 9pm.
The play follows a jazz band in London at a time of huge change.
Speaking about his choice of Hughes for the role, Poliakoff said: I auditioned Tom Hughes for my play last year entitled My City.  He was auditioning with a woman I know and she turned to me and said ‘that boy is a star’.”
Hughes, named on the 2011 BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Brits to Watch list, started out on the stage as a member of Cheshire Youth Theatre and Jigsaw Children’s Music Theatre Company.
