Chester Abbey Gate College students at Oxford University

SINGERS from Abbey Gate College were on song at one of the country’s top universities.

The Chapel Choir sang a joint evensong with the Chapel Choir of St Peter’s College, Oxford.

This was as a direct result of the director of music of St Peter’s, Dr Roger Allen, hearing the Abbey Gate College choir earlier this year in St Paul’s Cathedral.

Before the rehearsal and the service pupils were able to tour some of the Oxford Colleges.

The choirs sang music by Brewer, Rose, Purcell and Greater Love by John Ireland.

College director of music Stewart Smith said: “I was very proud to see our experienced singers blending so well with the students of St Peter’s College in the beautiful setting of St Peter’s Chapel.”
