Four people are trapped inside a building after an explosion at a mill in Cheshire.

Police have declared a ‘major incident’ after the blast at Wood Flour Mills, near Macclesfield, this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the business, on Tunstall Road in Bosley village, shortly after 9am.

Police reported two further explosions after the initial blast.

A 29-year-old woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham suffering from serious burns and blast injuries to her face, head, arms and chest.

Two more patients were also taken to hospital with burns. One went by land ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital and the other was airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester.

Fifteen fire crews from across Cheshire and Greater Manchester were called to battle the flames

A Cheshire Police spokesman confirmed: “At 9.12am on Friday, emergency services received a report of an explosion at Wood Flour Mills in Tunstall Road, Bosley.

“Emergency services are currently at the scene, and have declared this a major incident. It is believed there are four people trapped.”
