THOUSANDS of households in Cheshire West can benefit from home insulation that saves them money and protects the environment.

A new scheme called Cheshire West Warm Zone, provides free or low-cost cavity wall and loft insulation, with a view to eliminating fuel poverty and boosting energy efficiency in Chester.

Estimates show residents who have the work carried out to their homes could potentially save hundreds of pounds on their annual heating bills.

A partnership project between Cheshire West and Chester Council, Warm Zone and ScottishPower, the initiative complements the Government’s Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) programme, which has been designed to cut national greenhouse gas emissions by 2012.

The insulation measures come at a reduced price of £49 per measure for Cheshire West residents, and if you’re over 60 or claiming qualifying benefits they’re free.

Cllr Herbert Manley, the council’s regeneration and culture portfolio holder, said: “With the recently announced price hikes in the cost of fuel bills, it’s vital that our residents do all they can to maximise their home energy savings.”
