THE people of West Cheshire have overwhelmingly rejected a proposed change to the way MPs are elected.

No less than 72% of local electors said 'no' to the alternative vote system as part of the national referendum.

Chester MP Stephen Mosley said: "I was very proud to vote 'no' to AV. I believe in one person one vote, not a convoluted system that gives some people multiple votes.

"I am delighted with the overwhelming endorsement of first past the post in Cheshire West and Chester and I hope the story is repeated across the country."
