HOUSEHOLDERS in Cheshire West and Chester can now recycle cooking oil at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC).
The new project has seen containers with a 150 litre capacity being installed in the recycling centres – which are run on behalf of the council by H W Martin Waste Ltd.
Once the containers are full they are taken away by Convert2Green Ltd and the oil is recycled to produce bio-oil.
Jane Hughes of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “We are constantly looking for ways to improve recycling so this is yet another step in the right direction. The sites already collect many materials for recycling and this is a welcome addition.”
All HWRC sites accept the following materials: paper; glass; textiles; oil; cooking/vegetable oil; metal; cans; plastic bottles; green waste; batteries; wood; rubble and soil; books; small and large domestic electrical appliances such as fridges and freezers, televisions and monitors; fluorescent tubes and bric a brac (general re-usable items).
