Canvassers will be knocking on doors across West Cheshire to make sure important forms concerning the electoral register are completed.

Cheshire West and Chester Council recently sent forms and reminders to all households in the borough to check who is eligible to register to vote. It is important this form is completed and returned.

Any households who have not yet returned the form and provided the information will be sent another reminder and may receive a house visit by a personal canvasser.

Residents who are not currently on the electoral register will be sent a different form to complete and are encouraged to register to vote online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Even if you know that you are on the current electoral register you still need to return the ‘household enquiry’ form.

All canvassers employed by the council will show their identification badge and will not make house visits late at night.

Help to fill in form

They will be able to explain the reasons why the form needs completing and are able to provide assistance if you need help filling in your form.

Chief executive of Cheshire West and Chester Council and electoral registration officer Steve Robinson said: “Registering to vote is a simple process. However, some people may not realise that they must register individually.

“Anyone who wants to vote must be registered to make sure they are able to have their say at any future elections. Canvassers will visit homes to encourage and help those who have not yet responded to the forms that have been sent out.”

Residents who have any questions can contact the elections team at Cheshire West and Chester Council on 01244 977084.
