A SPECIAL celebration has taken place to mark the official opening of a junior cricket net facility at Tattenhall Cricket Club.

Fundraising from club members was supplemented by grants from the English Cricket Board and the Lord’s Taverners. Cheshire Cricket Board guidance was received and a contribution was made by local Broxton councillors Mike Jones, Neil Ritchie and Ann Wright.

Cheshire West and Chester Council leader Jones said: “The club is a Centre of Excellence for cricket in the rural area, with more than a hundred junior members. We all agreed to support Tattenhall Cricket Club because of the good work it does in our local area.”

Tattenhall Cricket Club is the senior club in the Broxton area, playing in the Cheshire County League.

Club members are aged between seven and 18 with five junior teams supported by 10 qualified ECB coaches.

Club chairman Mel Dobson said: “We are grateful for the support and enthusiasm of the councillors toward our new cricket net facility.

“This will assist in the delivery of qualified cricket coaching for children over the coming years as well as complementing the superb ground facilities available at Tattenhall.”
