COTEBROOK’S youngsters will have the chance to be the first to try out equipment at the official opening of the new play area in the village.

The ground is based on Cotebrook Green, at the rear of Woodland Close, and the event to mark the completion of the project will take place on Saturday, October 25.

Members of Utkinton Parish Council and representatives from the major funders of the project will be joining young people and parents from Cotebrook and its surrounding area to celebrate the opening of the new facility. There will also be a basketball coach who will be on hand to demonstrate and support young people present on how to use the equipment.

The facilities at the site include a football goal and basketball goal and playing area, benches and picnic tables.

Councillor Tony Dahill, chair of Utkinton Parish Council, said: “It has taken some time to secure these new facilities but we are very pleased with what has been achieved and hope they will be a source of enjoyment for local children and their families for many years to come.”

Elaine Beech, Utkinton parish clerk, said: “This is really just phase one of the project we hope to provide and area for the younger children. But we are still trying to get the funding.

“This area we hope will be used by all the children but particularly the older ones who want to play football and basketball. The picnic tables are also designed for games, as each of them as a board game printed on the top.”

Both parents and children are invited to the opening which will be at noon.
