A SUPERGRAN marathon runner was spurred on by a “fantastic” crowd to complete the run in the unexpected heat.

Hilary Watson, aged 59 of Peckforton, took on the London Marathon after only competing in one other charity run, and just weeks before her 60th birthday. She completed the marathon in five hours and 32 minutes.

Hilary who was herself diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago competed to raise money for Cancer Research UK, and currently her total raised is £7,200.

Hilary said: “It was just so hot, especially after training in one of the coldest winters in a long time, it was quite a shock.

“It was the crowd that was fantastic, I heard so many people shout my name and urge me to carry on. It was the young ones as well, all giving me high-fives as I ran past.

“I had many poignant moments through the run. At 25 miles I heard someone shout “come on Hilary” and I turned round and it was the husband of one of my friends Christine Brown who died of cancer, and that really encouraged me.

“I would just like to thank everybody for their generous donations and support.”
