Scouts from Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston have joined are part of a group of more than 50 Cheshire Scouts on the adventure of a lifetime in Japan.

They join thousands of others from around the globe at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree, from July 28 - August 8, in Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi City, under the banner of A Spirit of Unity.

The young people and their families attended a send-off event in Runcorn where the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Bill Holroyd CBE, told them: "Young people thrive on new experiences and you now have the opportunity to go and soak it all up."

Ellesmere Port & Neston Explorer Scout Alicia Kendall said: "It’s been hard work doing all the fundraising but a lot of fun, too, especially getting to know the other members of our unit. It will be an experience to remember."

The Scouts will enjoy home hospitality with Japanese families and stay in Tokyo. Each of them has raised more than £3,000 to attend the event, working for almost two years with the other members of their unit.

County Commissioner Graham Phillips said: "Don’t let anything stand in the way of each and every one of you having a fantastic time. It will be a very, very special experience.”
