MOTORISTS are being advised to take time and make sure their vehicle is prepared for safe driving this winter.

Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership has issued tips, including making sure you have plenty of windshield washer fluid in the reservoir and packing a snow/ice scraper, to help keep you and others safe on the roads, and save on expensive repair bills.

Lee Murphy, Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership manager, said: “Winter driving conditions can be very difficult. Yet with a little care and prior planning, it is possible to minimise the risk and maximise safety for you, your passengers and other road users.”

Dave Morris from Sandy Lane Garage in Chester added: “Winter driving can be hazardous, but look after your vehicle and it will look after you. By making sure it’s ready for adverse weather, you’ll help reduce your chances of being in a collision. Take your motor to a mechanic and ask them to check the battery, wipers, antifreeze levels, heating system, brakes, tyres and defroster. You can keep yourself and others safe, by slowing down, keeping a greater distance between yourself and the vehicle in front, and setting aside extra time to complete your journey.”

Other tips for safe winter driving include: keep your mobile fully charged; for longer journeys take blankets, a snack and a flask of warm drink and always keep a full tank of fuel – you never know when you might get delayed.
