DIVERS have discovered the dead body of a man in Hatchmere Lake.

The deceased’s clothes and belongings were found by the water’s edge after police, paramedics and fire service officers responded to a series of 999 calls at around 11.45am today, Wednesday.

A witness reported seeing a man swimming in lake, but suddenly disappearing.

Cheshire Police spokeswoman Shelley Williams said this afternoon: “Sadly the body of an adult male has been discovered. At this stage it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances.”

She said the body was found at around 2pm by the police under-water search team, and the deceased, who has not yet been named, was in his 40s. He is not believed to be from Cheshire.

The B5152 road near to the lake was initially closed in both directions at Hatchmere crossroads while the search was carried out, but has now reopened.
