CHESHIRE police and crime commissioner John Dwyer joined the latest intake of Special Constables at their ‘attestation’.

Volunteer Special Constables have the same powers as regular police officers and so take the same oath of attestation in which they swear before a magistrate to keep the Queen’s peace and uphold the law.

Mr Dwyer said: “I want to see the number of Specials double in Cheshire and they will be a valuable part of policing our neighbourhoods. People will use them as a point of contact when they have concerns.”
