CHESHIRE Police Authority has started the process to appoint a new Chief Constable following Peter Fahy’s recent success in becoming the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester.

Authority chairman Peter Nurse said: “We are seeking high calibre applications for the post of Chief Constable as we need someone who can lead a force which is committed to delivering effective and citizen focused policing.

“We are looking for an experienced and successful leader to work with the police authority, the public and our staff to make the people of Cheshire safe and feel safe.”

In recent years the authority says it has sought to address funding issues and has invested in improving policing for the people of Cheshire.

Members would like “to further improve neighbourhood policing” and tackle serious and organised crime more effectively.

Mr Nurse added: “It is time to build on that investment and become an even better performing force.”

The job has been advertised in policing press, the authority’s selection panel will announce the appointment of the new Chief Constable on October 24.
