THE world’s biggest fundraising swim is back for another year and Marie Curie Cancer Care is urging swimmers across Cheshire to sign up for a new challenge for 2013.

Held at more than 600 pools across the UK from April 26-28, the event sees thousands of swimmers challenge themselves through 5k, 2.5k and 1.5k individual challenges or Team 5k/1.5k challenges, while raising funds to help Marie Curie Nurses care for terminally ill people at the end of their lives.

Marie Curie Cancer Care supporter Jennifer Smith from Northwich said: “I knew once I had signed up for the Swimathon it would be a great motivator to get fit in the New Year.

“I took part as a team with several friends, I remember this feeling of shock after we had finished, we couldn’t believe how quickly the 5k had gone.

“I have done the swimathon before. It felt like such an achievement for all of us and we raised £250 for a great cause.”

Isabelle Abbey-Vital, community fundraiser in Cheshire, said: “Every year people across Cheshire take on a Swimathon challenge.

“You can even choose to take part individually or as part of a team. This year we hope even more people will take the plunge and raise funds to provide more free nursing care to terminally ill people in their own homes.”

Entry is open at www.swimathon.org until April 24.
