THE Cheshire Jets basketball team has teamed up with Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh to launch this year’s charitable ball in aid of a good cause.

Following on from the success of last year’s charity ball at Chester Racecourse, a second event has been organised to take place in the Pavilion Suite on October 8, from 7pm.

All proceeds from the event will go to Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Cheshire Jets star Chez Marks said he hoped the ball would improve on the success of last year’s fundraiser.

He said: “I am glad to be part of this. We all came out and showed our support last year for Claire House.

“The most important thing for this year is to make it bigger and better, that’s the main goal.”

Bronaugh Waugh, who plays Cheryl Brady in the TV soap, said the hospice received a lot of support.

She said: “I love supporting anything to do with Claire House. A lot of cast members are behind it, and all the kids there are from the surrounding areas, and it’s good to get to know them.

“All the events in aid of Claire House are brilliant. We have a fun day out and everybody wins.”

Peter Hawkins, Cheshire Jets director, said: “This is the second year Claire House is our nominated charity, and our aim is to raise £16,000 with help from thebestofchester.”

Laura Breen, from the Claire House fundraising team, said: “It’s lovely that it’s a long-term relationship. We are working with reputable names.

“Last year the money raised went to pay for a nurse for five months. this year, the £16,000 target can go to care for three families for a year.”

Tickets for the ball cost £45, and will include a three-course meal, entertainment and a disco. For more details, call the hospice’s appeal office on 0151 343 0883 or visit www.claire-house.org.uk.
