The director of Cheshire-based The Ice Cream Farm has been recognised at the British Farming Awards.

Jonathan Fell was named Digital Innovator of the Year at the event last month (October) at Chateau Impney Hotel, Droitwich Spa.

The British Farming Awards welcomed more than 600 farmers and industry professionals, showcasing the innovation and achievements of grass roots farmers from across the agricultural industry.

The award itself recognises outstanding digital innovation, where exceptional vision and understanding of the industry has contributed to the success of the business.

Running the award-winning ice cream manufacturing business, Cheshire Farm Ice Cream as well as the Cheshire tourist attraction, The Ice Cream Farm, Jonathan believes that digital innovation is of paramount importance for business success.

He said: “Following in-depth customer surveys and taking note of industry trends, we knew that digital innovation was going to be a key factor in our dramatic redevelopment. We placed a huge amount of importance on ensuring our website was of the highest standard and we have always been a firm believer in the power of social media, which is why we have team members replying to customers queries online around the clock.”

From an interactive website, selling ‘Play Pass’ discount cards to a strong social media presence, including employing team members solely dedicated to responding to online customer queries, The Ice Cream Farm has demonstrated that they are at the forefront of the industry.

The success of digital innovation can be demonstrated in increased visitor numbers not only to the site, but also online.

The Ice Cream Farm’s website currently attracts 20,000 unique visitors per month and social media figures are topping 50,000 likes and followers, thanks to unique campaigns and competitions.

The judges from the digital innovation category commented: “The digital innovation from The Ice Cream Farm is there for everyone to see no matter what platform you visit. There is a clear vision, consistency of brand and they absolutely know who their audience are and use the right tools to enhance that relationship.”

Guinness World Recor announced earlier this year that The Ice Cream Farm has been awarded ‘The World’s Largest Ice Cream Shop’ status.
