A NUMBER of gardens are opening as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

Ranging from small cottage gardens to acres of parkland, they have an average admission price of less than £3 (under-16s often admitted free).

Haughton Hall near Bunbury has a large garden currently being restored. It has an interesting collection of trees and new borders leading to a lake and a fine display of azaleas and rhododendrons. It’s open this Sunday from 2-5pm.

The Old Hough and The Barn at The Old Hough, Warmingham are described as oases of calm and are open on May 27; June 10 and 24 and July 1 from 5.30pm-9pm.

Orchard Villa at Alsager has an unusual collection of diverse plants and a long narrow garden accommodating shrubs, herbaceous plants, alpines, grasses, ferns and specialises in bulbs and irises. It is open this Sunday and August 18.
