Police have launched a criminal investigation into the awarding of Cheshire East contracts to a company run by the council leader’s physiotherapist.

Cheshire Constabulary has confirmed officers have begun a criminal investigation into alleged misconduct in a public office.

The investigation centres around the awarding of contracts worth more than £150,000 to Nantwich-based Core Fit, which is run by council leader Michael Jones’ physio, Amanda Morris.

A Cheshire police spokesman said: “Cheshire Constabulary has commenced a criminal investigation into misconduct in a public office as a result of information received about Cheshire East Council and the award of contracts.”

Cllr Jones has strenuously denied any wrongdoing.
