COMMUNITY groups and schoolchildren from Chester and Ellesmere Port will come together at Chester Racecourse on Tuesday evening to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Moment When is a large-scale participatory dance performance incorporating aerial work, music, fire and pyrotechnics, performed as part of the city’s celebrations for the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Chester.

Participants include: Inspire – a group for the over 55s set-up with Age UK Cheshire; Chester Graduate Group - a group of BA dance education graduates from Chester University; Let’s Connect – an adult disability group based at the Mulberry Day Centre in Chester; and Acresfield Primary School pupils.

This event is co-produced by Cheshire Dance and Salford-based Walk the Plank, and is inspired by the moment an athlete first decides they want to become an Olympian, as well as moments of change in everyday life.

Debbi Lander, the 2012 creative programmer for the North West, said: “London 2012 is not just about sport or spectatorship. It’s an opportunity to connect, to collaborate and be part of a community; and to celebrate the world’s largest global gathering on Earth.

“This is our chance to reach out and feel part of something bigger and to use London 2012 as a platform to create interaction and community across the North West.”

The Moment When is funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council, Warrington Borough Council, Arts Council England and supported by Marketing Cheshire.

The Moment When is part of the WE PLAY Challenge , the North West’s call to the region’s public to get involved in London 2012. Readers can sign up to the Challenge at www.nwfor2012.com/weplaychallenge.
