A FRODSHAM shop assistant has been fined £80 for selling alcohol to two under-18s.

The teenagers were spotted by PCSOs in the town with the alcohol, which they admitted they had just bought from a local shop.

The alcohol was confiscated and the shop assistant issued with a fine.

Insp Phil Hodgson of the Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We work with local shops and off-licences to ensure staff are well trained in asking people for identification when they buy alcohol.

“Anyone who fails to comply with licensing laws faces a fine or in some cases, their alcohol licence could be revoked.

“We take under-age drinking very seriously. Many incidents of anti-social behaviour or violence stem from alcohol use.

“But not only that, young people can also put themselves in danger when they have been drinking as their inhibitions are low and their sense of danger distorted.”
