A new photographic competition has been launched by the Canal and River Trust across North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.

The competition is looking for imaginative and evocative photographs that depict Life on the Waterways across the region, including the River Weaver, Shropshire Union, Llangollen and Montgomery canals, and iconic waterway structures such as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Anderton Boat Lift.

The free competition will be judged in two categories – children aged 15 and under, and an open category for any age.

A total of £300 worth of photographic equipment and £50 in book tokens will be on offer to the winners.

The closing date for entries is 4pm on Friday, September 23 and the winners will be announced on Friday, October 21 at the annual showcase event at Chester Racecourse staged by the Canal and River Trust’s North Wales and Borders Waterway Partnership.

Chair of the North Wales and Borders Waterway Partnership Brenda Harvey said: “The aim of the photographic competition is to draw attention to the wonderful diversity of waterways in this region.

“We hope this competition will inspire everyone to get out their camera and explore our waterways, capturing images that reflect the natural and man-made waterway environments and drawing out what they mean to people and communities.

“We look forward to receiving some fantastic images which will provide a visual feast for everyone visiting our public annual showcase event at Chester Racecourse on October 21.”
