A TV gameshow has inspired a Kelsall pub to hold a unique charity fundraising event.

Paul Newman and Dave Mooney, owners of The Lord Binning pub, have come up with a way of giving their customers an exciting dining experience at the same time as raising money for Winsford-based hospice, St Luke’s – in the form of a ‘Deal or no Deal’ competition.

Every Wednesday, ‘Meal or no Meal’ will give diners at the pub the chance to make big savings on their food bills, by taking part in the ‘Bankers Gamble’ made famous by the popular Channel 4 show hosted by Noel Edmonds.

They will have the chance to choose from three red boxes, each containing their bill with their normal bill, one with a 30% discount, and another with a 20% discount.

Customers don’t have to take part in the game if they don’t want to, but since all proceeds raised from each discounted bill will be donated to the hospice, they can be safe in the knowledge that they have done a good deed.

Mr Newman said: “There are lots of fairly obvious ways of raising money for charity, but we thought it would be nice to put an unusual spin on it. “Diners can have a bit of fun and potentially donate to St Luke's at the same time. The hospice does such an amazing job and we're really pleased that the staff and customers here can do something to help raise much-needed funds, on a regular basis,” he added.

To try your luck in ‘Meal or no Meal’, visit the Lord Binning on any Wednesday.
