AT THE touch of a button, internet users can now click on the location of any safety camera enforcement site in Cheshire.
They can also look at the accident figures for each spot.
All this is possible because the Cheshire Safety Camera Part-nership has just updated its website with a 'camera locator'.
The site to log on to is www.cheshiresafecam.org.uk/camera_maps, which also offers details of where mobile camera vans will be enforcing, descriptions of each type of camera used and a news section.
Lee Murphy, project manager of the Cheshire Safety Camera Partnership, said: 'Research shows that the majority of people support the use of safety cameras to reduce casualties.
'However, a lot of people are not so sure they are in the right place.
'This facility will not only allow people to see where each camera is before they plan their journey but they will also be able to see how many people have been injured at these sites. Hopefully, this knowledge will influence drivers to adhere to speed limits and traffic signals.'
What the site shows in Ellesmere Port is: nOn the B5132 Over-pool Road, which has a 30mph limit, there have been 90 collisions, with a total of 107 casualties, since 1998, peaking at 16 collisions that year. One of the casualties was fatal, with 10 serious and 96 slight.
On the A5032 Chester Road, Whitby, where the limit is 30mph, there have been 14 collisions since 1998, resulting in 20 casualties, 17 of which were slight and three serious. Most of the accidents - five - came in 2002 but there have been none since then.
On the B5463 Station Road, Little Sutton, with a speed limit of 30mph, there have been 22 collisions since 2000, resulting in 26 casualties, one of which was fatal, five serious and 20 slight. There was a peak of seven accidents in 2003 and two this year.
Three more accident blackspots are recorded on the site - the A550 Welsh Road and A550 Ledsham and the A5117 at Elton Green, which are covered by red light cameras but for which accident data is pending.
