A FORMER PARA is preparing to trek to the Everest base camp in Katmandu in a bid to raise cash for a charity which helped his cancer-stricken father-in-law live out his final months with dignity.

Jason Adams, of Grizedale, Widnes, is trekking through Katmandu next March and is seeking sponsors and planning a range of fundraising activities.

Thirty-four-year-old Jason, a keen climber who served with 2 PARA for five years, has travelled the world to locations including Belize, West Africa and India.

Jason said the charity helped his partner Kelly Morris, 28, and her father through the worst experience of their lives. He made it his ambition to do all he can to promote and raise funds for the Marie Curie cancer charity over the coming years.

He said: 'Life is a gift, that's my motto, and I hope this is a way of giving something back.'
