A SPECIAL night will be held in Chester to honour a much-loved teenager who lost his battle with cancer earlier this year.

The family of Tony Williams, of Overpool Road, Ellesmere Port, had been determined to set up a charity in his honour since his death from a rare oesophageal cancer on May 13.

This type of disease normally affects adults more than 50-years-old, with just 8,200 cases diagnosed a year, which made Tony’s death at the age of 16 all the more tragic.

The West Cheshire College student, who was studying music at the Handbridge campus, had recorded a Youtube video before his death, in which he joked about setting up a Big Bottle Society while holding a giant plastic Coca-Cola bottle.

Now his family have granted his wish by setting up the charity, which raises awareness of gastric cancer in young men, and will be holding a charity fashion show at Chester’s Laugh Inn on September 16.

The event, organised by Tony’s sister Lisa and her friend Charlie Shaw, the owner of Foxy Frox fashion boutique in Hoole, will feature catwalk shows, a burlesque dance show, stalls, a live DJ, modelling scout and prizes up for grabs in the raffle.

The boutique will also be showcasing its 2012 autumn/winter collection.

Charlie, who is a regular fundraiser, said they were looking to raise ‘as much as possible’ from the event.

“This is a great cause. The Big Bottle Society is not a registered charity as yet so until then we are raising the money through Cancer Research,” she explained.

“Lisa is an old friend of mine and when I found out about Tony I knew she would appreciate the idea of having a charity night in his memory.

“I met Tony a few times when he was a young boy and he was a lovely little lad, the whole family are just lovely people who would always do anything for anyone.

“We hope we can let people know what a good cause this is, and for them to come along and see the show for themselves,” she added.

Tickets for the fashion show cost £10. For more information contact Charlie on 01244 409059.
