FRODSHAM and Helsby Fire Cadets are hoping to receive a sky-high donation next week with the help of a fundraising balloon race.

The cadets have been selling tickets for the race at the Tesco superstore, on Chester Road, Helsby, to help raise much-needed funds for their Mercy Mission to Ghana where they will help to build a school for local children.

This will be the third time cadets have travelled to Ghana to help build a school. They also went in 2005 and 2007, each time raising the significant amount of money for the trip though fundraising.

This year the cadets will travel to Volta Region of Ghana to the village of Adeklu Kodiabe, an area of Ghana chosen by the charity Ghana Outlook. This year the cadets have the challenge of raising £42,000.

Julia Shutt, a cadet leader from Frodsham said: “We are really looking forward to the trip as it is such a fantastic learning opportunity for the cadets. We really hope the balloon race will help us raise some of the much-needed funds.”

The balloon race will take place on Saturday when 1,000 balloons will be released into the air at 1pm. Customers at the store are being asked to buy a ticket for the race to help cadets with funding. The owner of the balloon that travels the furthest will win £100 in Tesco gift cards to spend at the store.

Tickets, which cost £1 each, are available from the customer service desk.
