A GREEN belt chapel in Mouldsworth will be turned into a home.

The application was put forward for the traditional stone built chapel on Chapel Lane, Mouldsworth by Mr and Mrs Aitken.

More recently, the chapel has been occupied by a day nursery. The change to residential was supported by Mouldsworth Parish Council.

Councillors said there did not seem to be a suitable commercial use and there was always a concern about children being dropped off and picked up. The village could not sustain an independent village hall for community use.

No objections were raised by three neighbours who were consulted.

Although the chapel is in good condition, it has clearly been derelict for some time, according to planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council. The nursery had been showing a loss and Mr and Mrs Aitken had concluded it would be uneconomic to carry on trading.

There had been sustained marketing of the property for sale since 2009 but there had been no interest.

Planners accepted the only viable option was reuse for residential purposes. The application was recommended for approval and the council agreed.
