YOUNG football fans wishing to sharpen up their soccer skills and build up their fitness levels can take part in a fun course.
Soccer Funweeks provides children aged five to 13 years old with week-long courses that are enjoyable, educational and offer plenty of exercise to reach their fitness goals.
Courses are offered at Upton’s Recreation Centre, Chester, at the end of this month and in late August.
The course also comes with star backing, as Fulham striker Danny Murphy, who was born in Chester, endorses the scheme.
Football coaching comes through friendly games, training and penalty shootout competitions, making use of state-of-the-art inflatable equipment.
There is also healthy nutritional advice offered in breaks from the football action, demonstrating to children how successful football players rely on having a balanced diet.
Paul Johnson, who runs the Soccer Funweeks course, said: “Soccer Funweeks is a popular physical football-based course for the summer holidays. We hand out leaflets on diet, how to keep healthy to players from time to time – for example, to recommend more hydration, and what to eat.
“We also give a small piece on nutrition which is always very well-received.
“It’s especially useful if in the weeks we carry out the training the weather is particularly hot.”
The course also gains strength from Premiership players paying a visit to Soccer Funweeks venues, including Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard.
Paul added: “The features such as signed shirts from players such as Danny Murphy as prizes given out at the end of the week add to the overall package.”
