BIG hats and posh frocks will be the order of the day when the village of Comberbach heads for the races later this month.

A Day At The Races has been picked as the theme for this year's rose fete on Saturday, June 30, with a donkey derby providing the main attraction.

Organisers are offering people the chance to become owners for the day for £15 and watch the races from the owner's enclosure. The owner of the winning donkey will also receive a bottle of bubbly. Sponsorship forms are available from the post office or Charles Smith on 01606 892347.

Before that, all are invited to join in the annual fun run and charity walk on Sunday. The event will follow a course from Comberbach Primary School along Senna Lane and Hall Lane, returning to the school via Cogshall Lane and Mather Drive. Light refreshments will be available .

For more details, call Gillian Naylor on 01606 891185. Proceeds from the walk and run will go to St Luke's Hospice.
