A RUNCORN Community Support Officer who was awarded the title of 'neighbourhood champ' last year is donating his winnings for the benefit of residents on the Castlefields estate.
PCSO Dave Brownlee is giving his £250 prize to the Castlefields Community Festival, to benefit residents living in the area he patrols for Cheshire Police.
The officer was given the title 'neighbourhood champ' in a competition organised by the Liverpool Echo and Liverpool Housing Trust last April, held to celebrate 'unsung heroes' or organisations whose work makes a difference to the local area.
PCSO Brownlee was given the award by Kenny and Lynn Willis of the Saint Aloysius Boxing Club in Huyton in February.
He had been nominated by the secretary of the Local Resident's Association and chairperson of the Local Community Forum, Mary Achilles.
PCSO Brownlee intended the money and the interest it has gained since last year to go towards setting up local Home Watch schemes. However, he discovered funding streams were already available for such initiatives and decided another worthy cause would appreciate his money more.
PCSO Brownlee said: 'The organ-isers of the festival want people to feel proud of living and working in Castlefields.
'I will be donating my money to contribute to the costs of hosting the day which will be for the benefit of everyone.'
The Castlefields Community Festival will take place in the community centre on Thursday, June 1, from 11am-3pm.
