CELEBRATED theatre director Nikolai Foster will be joining the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre team as director off the classic Shakespearean comedy As You Like It this summer.
The popular season returns for a second year with two new productions of Shakespeare’s As You Like It and a new play by Glyn Maxwell, Merlin And The Woods Of Time.
This year’s extended season runs from July 7-August 21 and includes 49 performances.
Nikolai said: “I’m really looking forward to working in Chester;ŠGrosvenor Park is such a magical setting for open air theatre.”
Described by critics as “one of the country’s most promising young directors”, Nikolai is no stranger to open air theatre events.
He is currently working in Singapore directing an ambitious outdoor performance of Macbeth as part of the Singapore Repertory Theatre’s Shakespeare In The Park programme.
Born in Denmark, Foster grew up in North Yorkshire and trained at Drama Centre London and at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
He has gone on to work on a wealth of rich and varied projects that have taken him all over the world including Europe, The Middle East and South East Asia.
Previous theatre work includes A Christmas Carol at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, A Streetcar Named Desire at Clwyd Theatr and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.
Other projects include working on the BBC Three hit series How Not To Live Your Life and a UK tour of The Witches Of Eastwick.
Foster will be joining Alex Clifton who returns to take up his post as artistic director and director of Merlin And The Woods Of Time.
Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre is the only full-time professional theatre company outside of London. Last year’s debut season attracted over 5,500 visitors.
