BOTH were born in Kelsall, both went to the same school and both went into catering after graduating from university.
Now Sarah Oldroyd and Max Baker have returned to their home village to run the new star attraction.
The Oak - formerly The Royal Oak - is opening on August 17 as a gastro pub after a half-a-million pound refurbishment. Mr Baker is licensee and Miss Oldroyd Operations Manager.
She said 'Max and I have been friends for years and worked together at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel. With an excellent staff behind us, I know we will make a great team.
'It's good being back in Kelsall. It's a thriving village and The Oak has an important role to play.'
Miss Oldroyd was assistant manager of the Grosvenor Brasserie before going to Est Est Est in Chester as general manager. She comes to The Oak after managerial jobs with Le Petit Blanc and Selfridges in Manchester.
Mr Baker joined the Grosvenor from university and was a senior manager before leaving to become licensee of The Stanley Arms in Brook Street, Chester, in 2002. With partner Steve Cooper he transformed it into a top-rated food venue, winning the Pub of the Year Award for 2004/5.
