A GROUP of local actresses are ‘baring all’ by going semi-nude on stage in Chester as Tip Top Productions becomes one of the first amateur groups in the country to perform the stage play of Tim Firth's smash hit comedy Calendar Girls.
The show launches the new season at Chester's Forum Studio Theatre, housed in the former Chester Gateway Theatre building.
And the plucky cast members have been inspired by the play’s story and are following the example of the WI girls who stripped off for a fundraising calendar.
The cast and crew have produced a 2013 calendar which features everyone involved in the production, from props ladies to the deputy stage manager, each posing for a particular month.
The calendar will be on sale at the theatre during the run with all proceeds going to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
Calendar Girls, which runs at the theatre until September 22, is based on the true story of 11 members of the WI who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia UK Fund.
It holds the record for the fastest selling play in Britain following the opening of the original production at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
Taking the brave step of disrobing on stage are Del Underwood, Rachel Sumner, Chris Dukes, Maureen Tolefree, Sally Dillon and Joanne Lloyd.
Sally, who is playing Chris, said: “We hope we have brought something of ourselves to the roles while remaining true to the brilliant characterisations which Tim Firth describes at the beginning of the play.”
