A memorial service for Kevin Whyman, the pilot killed at CarFest North at Oulton Park, will be held on August 20.

The funeral for The King’s School former pupil will take place at 2pm at St Clement Danes Church, Strand, London.

Mr Whyman, 39, died when his plane crashed during a Gnat Display Team show at the motoring festival held at Oulton Park on August 1.

An inquest into his death opened at Warrington Town Hall on August 12 and has been adjourned to a later date.

BBC presenter Chris Evans is the man behind CarFest and honoured the airman with a minute’s silence the following day and also paid a tribute on his Radio 2 breakfast show.

Mr Evans said: “I can’t even begin to put into words how shocked and saddened we all were when we realised the seriousness of the situation.

“Kevin loved life, he lived it to the full every minute of every day so the best thing we could do to pay tribute to his memory is to try to do the same, which we most certainly will.”

The service for Mr Whyman will proceed to The Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London.

The Chester-born pilot was once an active member of The King’s School Rowing Club and staff at the school also paid tribute to their former pupil.

He went on to read economics at Cambridge University and coxed Cambridge Boat crews to victory in 1996 and 1997.

Mr Whyman trained as a fast jet pilot with the RAF after leaving education, but changed career to become a mortgage trader in London.

He leaves a wife and young daughter.

A JustGiving page has been set up in Mr Whyman’s honour to raise money for Help for Heroes.
