A crash in Helsby caused a car to be flipped on to its roof.
Cheshire Police said the driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan was conscious and breathing after the incident on Chester Road at 5.23pm on Tuesday (December 22).
Congestion has built up on the A56 in both directions, with motorists using the village's back roads to escape the queues.
Emergency services were in attendance at the scene in the heart of Helsby.
