A CHESTER teacher is using his pedal power to support one of his pupils’ battle with cancer.
Tom Lewis, who lives in the Garden Quarter and teaches at Capenhurst CE Primary School, will cycle more than 700 miles across France to raise money for Leukaemia Research.
He said: “For the last year I have been teaching Gemma Warden who is being treated for leukaemia. Gemma is nine years old, a great artist and scientist who has a great sense of humour.
“Recently the mother of another pupil in my school was diagnosed with leukaemia too. I felt so touched by the plight of these families that I wanted to do this bike ride.”
Tom and four friends will board the ferry to France on Saturday to cycle from St Malo in Northern France to Bilbao in Spain.
