VOLUNTEERS helped to tidy up Chester’s canal towpath last weekend.

The first Chester Towpath Taskforce, made up of volunteers and local residents, was organised by the Canal and River Trust.

Team leader Glenn Young said: “Everybody worked really hard at Tower Wharf in the Garden Quarter to give the area a big tidy-up, collecting nine bags of litter, a discarded fishing net, half a bicycle and a shopping trolley.

“We also painted number 2 lock on the Dee Branch and a put a coat of paint on the entrance gates to brighten up the area.”

The canal towpath through Chester is a popular walking and cycling route.

Chester Towpath Taskforce will run on the first Saturday of every month and is an opportunity to help make a difference to the historic Chester Canal and make sure it continues to be enjoyed by residents and visitors to the city.
